A fictional restaurant offers wine tastings for groups. The Winego app aims to assist its sommeliers in the tasks involved with preparing the wine selection: advising on wines in the dining room, take the order, collecting bottles from the cellar and tasting them once back in the dining room. This means not only excellent management of the bottles in stock but also moving from a well-lit room to a dark cellar. The challenge for the Design team was to improved guidance with better visibility of rack and shelf numbers and to enhance the use of the app in the dimly-lit wine cellar.
Although the application is mainly technical/logistical and is not targeted at the clients, particular attention has been paid to its aesthetics. Its appearance express the elegance of the restaurant and the nobility of the wines served.
The last three screens show the main functions of the app: a detailed overview of the wines in the cellar (Wine in stock), client ordering (Client's order) and the option of ordering wines that are out of stock (Restock cart).
To ensure the safety and reading comfort of the sommelier, the focus has been on providing access to two essential functions: the flashlight, located in the centre of the nav bar as a large button, and the dark mode, directly to the right of the nav bar.
This allows the sommelier to illuminate the old staircase leading to the cellar, and to move around the numerous shelves without damaging the wines, which would otherwise be exposed to light for too long. The easy switch to dark mode prevents the sommelier from being dazzled as he walks back and forth between the dining room and the cellar.
